
Alright so the biggest pain and the biggest complaint I hear from people is how to free your iPod from the mean grasp of iTunes. Well after a few days of searching it looks like it can be done without much work. I hate iTunes as it reminds me of AOL and tries to take over my computer and think for me. With these two applications you can bypass iTunes all together.
Linux:
GTK ipod linux - This application is a free open source iTunes replacement for Linux. The interface is easy to use and straight forward
Windows:
Download Winamp
Download iPod Plug-in
Ahh yes winamp possibly the greatest free player ever made. All you need to do is download the free version of Winamp, download the plugin, install everything. After that go to the media libruary and you should be able to see your iPod under devices. Now this makes for a simple drag and drop interface.
Rumor has it you can get winamp to work through WINE and with Linux, I had no such luck but the GTK iPod link above application does the trick.
And for those of you on Macs all I have to say is sorry you should have bought a PC, but I am sure there is an application out there for you to solve the iTunes dependency issue. But not haveing a Mac and not ever wanting to, I limited my findings to PC’s
