Pictures that are exploded

imageThere are a lot of cool pictures in this collection.  It looks like he is a photographer for Nike as he seems to have a lot of pictures with Nike stuff.  Pretty amazing, it is stuff like this that makes me want to pick up a camera and learn to do this, unfortunately I do not really have the talent for it but I do appreciate a good picture!

Yahoo! Updates My.Yahoo and makes it useable

imageLooks like Yahoo has done a much needed upgrade to their old my yahoo pages.  I almost forgot about this feature as I didn’t really find a good use for them.  The new version integrates a lot of nice AJAX and layout options.  It is very similar to iGoogle but I think I like the layout of this one much better.  Not that anyone really has a ‘home’ page anymore but I think that this is going to be my new home page from now on.  Most of the modules they have are RSS based which I use Google Reader for but I like the UI design of the new pages.  The only thing I was really using on iGoogle was the chat client which I now run as a stand alone using Prism.  This seems to load a lot faster than iGoogle does and now that I have Plaxo syncing all my calendars and contacts this makes using Yahoo that much easier, plus all my mail forwards to my yahoo account as I think it is the most robust web based email out there.  Gmail has some nice features (which is why I have a Gmail account as well) but I think as far as sending emails from the web Yahoo has the better model.

Web Site tells you ‘How It Sucks’

image  One thing I typically find myself doing before I purchase a product is search for all the negative reviews.  The biggest problem with that is there are always some people who seem to be the forever pessimist and always leave bad comments.  One nice thing of this site is it aggregates all the negative comments for you so you can get a read on how bad it really is.  The only issue is that it seems to have some technical issues as some different products have the exact same negative reviews which cannot be true.  Plus I was looking at the digital camera frames and one of the negative comments was talking about wireless issues when it is not a wireless picture frame.  But I like the idea and we will have to see where the site goes.  My dad would be so upset over the name of this site as he hates the word ‘SUCK’!

Hyundai Genesis Spyshots

imageimageLooks like some new pictures of the 4 door Genesis have risen from the Detroit car show that is about to happen here pretty soon.  Still looking for the specs and the pricing of this new car but the pictures are promising and resemble some familiar body lines that seem to be making it to every sedan these days.  But it is 4 door and 4 tires and 2 headlights how many ways can you really do it?  But the interior shows some promising pictures that Hyundai is moving in the right direction.  The navigation ball in the center of the console behind the transmission looks pretty familiar don’t you think?

5 port USB, SATA, eSATA

imageAh yes convergence at its finest.  You can never have enough USB ports and this adds the nice functionality of eSATA and SATA plugs which are great seeing as how there are a lot of new enclosures with ports on them and it is also a lot faster then USB.  $43 for the powered version which is a must as just about all peripherals need power from USB.  Personally I am excited to see USB 3.0 come to the market!

Visual Dictionary makes describing things easier

image This site is great, it has these slices of everyday objects and breaks them out into their technical terms and names.  This is great when you are looking up something at say a hardware store and need to find the do-hickie that you jiggle to make the toilet stop running.  It has a great Ajax search agent to help you find exactly what you want quickly and easily.  And as the name indicates it gives you a definition of each of the parts along with a little audible clip you can play to hear the word.

WordPress Tiger-Admin style change

image Tired of looking at those ugly Wordpress Admin Pages?  Try this plugin all you have to do is the normal plugin work of downloading, up-zipping, uploading, and activating.  I have made some minor changes to the css files to clean up some stuff and make the text a little easier to read seeing as how some of the text was too small to read I also fixed the alignment of some of the tables so things line up correctly.  Looks like the original project is abandoned as the last time it was updated was December 2006.

PS…This plugin only works with Safari and Firefox if you are using IE you will not see a difference.  I just read the road map for WordPress and it looks like re-designing the admin pages is on the list for the next release in January 2.4

Add Calendar Features to Thunderbird

image So with having some extra time this weekend I looked a little deeper into Thunderbird and some of the new features that you can add to it.  One nice new thing is that you can install a plugin called Lightning which will add an Outlook type calendar to your Thunderbird install.  After installing Lightning as an add-on you can then download a Google Calendar plugin.  This plugin will allow you to select Google as an external calendar.  From there you re-launch Thunderbird and go to the calendar menu and add an external calendar.  Tell it you want to add it from your network then add the private calendar address you can get out of Google’s calendar settings.  This is a nice feature and brings Google calendar to Thunderbird and is always up to date.  Plus with Plaxo now syncing my work calendar and my personal calendars it is a very powerful addition to Thunderbird.  My only complaint is it is a bit slow.
