So during this weekends surfing the web to avoid doing anything related to school work I signed up for Plaxo. I was playing around with my cell phone and saw that it can sync with Plaxo for a moderate $5/month fee. So before I took the plunge I wanted to checkout what it was all about. On Plaxo’s site you can signup for a free basic account which does all the important parts except sync with your phone. It takes all your contacts as well as all your calendar events from Google, Outlook, Yahoo, Facebook, LinkedIn and puts it all in one manageable online tool. The calendar sync is especially nice for those without BlackBerries but want access to your work calendar. I am debating on trying the mobile edition for my RAZR as that is one functionality I could really use. If this works well then I wouldn’t really need a reason to have a smart phone as the calendar is all I really want. My only issue with Plaxo was while I was creating my account it kept asking me to invite people to Plaxo and send emails, which I didn’t really want to do as I didn’t feel everyone needed to know I created an account. Just watch out when you setup the application as it might do the same thing to you.
I also just noticed that Plaxo merges all your calendars and contacts together with the accounts you setup on those accounts. So it takes everything in Outlook and adds it to your Google calendar and vice versa. Only issue is if you have anything funky on your Google account it will show up on your Outlook account and if you share your Outlook calendar then everyone at work knows what you are up to.
