Check out a feed through Google Reader

image Have you ever wanted to check out a feed on Google Reader before subscribing to it?  If you add a bookmark with the following code and click it when an RSS feed is available it will allow you to do just that.  This comes in handy if you are curious if the feed contains images or is just headlines without any text, this has saved me from subscribing to some less useful feeds.

Bookmark Code (copy and paste):

javascript:var%20b=document.body;if(b&&!document.xmlVersion)
{void(z=document.createElement(’script’));
void(z.src=’http://www.google.com/reader/ui/subscribe-bookmarklet.js’);
void(b.appendChild(z));}else
{location=’http://www.google.com/reader/view/feed/’+encodeURIComponent(location.href)}

Make Google Reader Better

image This plugin is one of the best plugin’s I am using for Firefox these days.  This one fixes it so that little screen that pops up after you click an RSS feed link that lets you choose Google reader or iGoogle goes away and defaults to Google Reader.  It also allows you to skin the reader with a few different choices.  I am a fan of the OSX theme (yes I hate Macs but their color schemes are usually the best) this theme is very clean and gives Google Reader a new look.  Also it allows you open the link in the RSS feed right into the browser making it much cleaner and easier to use.

The code is written by our good friends over at Lifehacker, I also like it because I am not a big fan of using Grease Monkey scripts and that used to be the only way to change the look of Google Reader but now this is just a stand alone plugin.  Click the picture to get the plugin.

80-in-1 High Speed Card Reader

image There is a competition to make the end all card reader and as of today this one takes the cake.  it reads 80 different flash media types and costs a whopping $17 not a bad deal considering the one I bought at Best Buy the other day was $25 and that read only SD cards.

Rally Racing on Snow With Some Big Air

image So if you forget that this is for a snowboarding magazine this is pretty amazing.  Looks like they got a rally racer to go with them in a snowboard park and have some fun along side with them.  Pretty amazing stuff!  I guess they broke the record for the longest jump in a car on snow while doing this shot.  The official information is on the 0-60 website but check out the video below!  I love rally racing if only it would become bigger in the US!

Rock Band Game Review

image Well safe to say we are totally addicted to this game.  We have managed to get through the guitar part pretty easily but seem to struggle a little with the drums as that requires some major coordination.  Actually the 4 tops aren’t the issue it is mixing it in with the foot pedal that seems to kill both of us.  The game certainly has great entertainment value and is something that will frustrate the hell out of you but keep you smiling.  The great thing about this is that you can download additional songs to add to the game (for a small fee of $1.99/song) which makes the game more expandable.  The game also keeps challenging you and realizes when you are too good at easy and then it requires you to move to the medium game difficulty in order to progress in the game and it is amazing how much harder that can make the game.

I suggest that you run the calibration tool so that it calibrates the drums with the music we found that in the beginning the beats were off but after running the quick tool it brought things back together.

Just make sure you have a USB hub somewhere around to plug in all the instruments as the new PS3’s only come with two ports!

Today it was announced that stand alone instruments will be available to purchase by mid February.  So now you can actually have four people playing at once.

Half-Life 2 Orange Box Edition

image This one gets some mixed reviews as it didn’t really keep my interest strong enough to play it all the way through.  Which is pretty uncommon for me and these types of games.  I got pretty frustrated in some areas of the game and gave up on it completely.  Perhaps its because I just got my PS3 and have 18 games in my game queue that I want to play and this one lost my interest quickly.  I may have to rent this one again when I have gone through a bunch of other games so I don’t feel the need to trade up so quickly with Gamefly.

The graphics were decent nothing that really blew my socks off and the levels looked exactly how they are on the PC version that I played and beat about 2 years ago.  Portal and Team Fortress were not very interesting and would take Unreal Tournament over it any day.  The second episode of Half Life II played a lot like the first episode so I was kinda over it after I spent many days beating the first chapter 2 years ago.

The game did freeze on me a few times requiring me to do a cold reboot in the middle of the game which I wasn’t too happy about.  I have come across a few reviews that said Steam was going to release a patch soon but I decided to return the game a few days ago.

GrubHub replaces your Menu Drawer

image Grubhub has a great idea to be a central repository for take out menus for many restaurants.  I think this makes a great idea as it helps also give you a selection of what you could eat for dinner.

As of right now it is only centralized around Chicago but I think the website has a promising idea and I would expect that its regions will grow as time goes on.  Or maybe the site will fail before it has a chance to expand…who knows these days

DIA Conspiracy Theory

image Alright the first time I read this about Denver’s International Airport I didn’t believe a word and was laughing really hard.  Today some co-workers mentioned the same story so figured I should post this before I forget these links.  People are amazing and so are their crackpot brains that conjure up this stuff!

Unreal Tournament III - Game Review

ureal_tournament-iii_tn This game is amazing, I remember playing Unreal Tournament in college and blowing away my roommates as we played against each other.  As usual the online play is almost impossible and you typically don’t last very long but it makes for some interesting challenges.  I also like this one because they included some vehicles that you can drive and some other little fun gadgets to play with.  My only complaint is the lack of local multiplayer support, so you cannot play in 2 player mode you can only play in multiplayer mode online.

They decided to be able to let users plug in a mouse and keyboard to play this game which gives it the exact same feels and controls as the PC.  This makes it much easier and more fun to play.  I would suggest this game to anyone and I am seriously contemplating keeping this game from Gamefly.

Thirsty-Light Tells you to Water Your Plants

image This is a great idea for those of us who have killed every house plant they have ever owned.  A small sensor on the end will tell the LED at the top to turn on when the soil gets too dry.  Pretty simple idea!

Costs $10/sensor or you can get bundled ones for a discount
