Firefox Plugin’s Update

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Software

image  I have added a few things to my Firefox lately, so here are some of the icons that are sitting on the toolbar

image Stylish.  This plugin works very similarly to Grease Monkey, I am using this right now because they have an awesome redesign for Gmail which allows me to use Gtalk and AIM from work through Gtalk.

image Meebo.  This one adds little notifications (similar to guifications for PIDGIN) to Firefox for Meebo which makes Meebo just that much better, this way you know when you get IM’s regardless if you are focused on Firefox or not.

image IE Tab. nothing new been using this one for a while

image Foxmarks.  This one is amazing because it syncs all my computers Firefox’s bookmarks making bookmarks actually something that I use.

image Fast Video Download.  This allows you to download any YouTube video with the click of a button.  It downloads the file a .FLV

image Autocopy.  Nothing new here have been using this one for a while.

Picasa Web-Albums Downloader

image So for those people who like to post images in Picasa web album but not enable you to download them this little Java app lets you get around clicking each one and downloading.  This is helpful for people like my father who I have setup a full website for but never uses it and just uses Picasa (which was a feat in itself to get him to do)

New Firefox Theme and a UserChrome.css

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Software

image I have finally found a new theme that I can live with.  This one is very clean and nice to use.  I made some very very small tweaks to userChrome.css to fix a few things but other than that this is a great new look for Firefox.

Make Gmail Better

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Software, Web Sites

image As with Google Reader there is a plugin for making Gmail look better and function better as well.  It is called Better Gmail 2.  Today I also found an application called Gmail Redesigned which gives you a nice skin to throw onto Gmail.  I don’t use Gmail a lot as I usually use Yahoo to do my web mailing but one thing Gmail does do is it allows me to spoof the email I am sending from so I can email from my school email account straight from Google.  This is a lot easier then logging into my school email account.  Lifehacker says that they are going to update Better Gmail soon so that it has skins but until then using Stylish and this script Gmail is much prettier now!

PortableApps - PDFTK Builder Combines PDF’s

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Software

image With PDF Creator you can make any printable document into a PDF, but what happens when you need to combine many PDF’s into just one file.  It seems that PortableApps is on a mission to convert a whole lot of new applications into their suite and this is their latest addition.  With PDFTK you can combine, split, watermark, and rotate your PDF’s with one simple tool.  I had found something similar to this before but it wasn’t open source and it wasn’t free and it was pretty large.  This is a great little app that you can run on your pen drive or install it to your computer.  A must have for anyone who deals with PDF’s a lot.

Visual Font Viewer

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Software

imageThis application has some great uses.  It allows you to compare many fonts side by side without having to view them one by one.  This makes it very convenient if your girlfriend has a font obsession and you have 100’s of different free fonts

RegSeeker- Scans and Cleans your Registry

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Software

image Keep your Windows registry clean and up to date with RegSeeker.  It scans your computer and then scans your registry for obsolete entries or incorrect entries.  I run this along with CCleaner once a month to keep things lean on my computer.

After running the registry scan it lets you delete all the entries and creates a backup file you can run by itself incase you need to restore something it deleted.

CCleaner-Crap Cleaner Keeps Windows Running Fast

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Software

image CCleaner is a program that I use that is free that does what the name implies, it removes the crap on your computer.  I run this about once a month to keep XP clean and running quickly.

I haven’t had this application delete anything it is not supposed to, and on average it recovers about .5 Gig of space after I run it.

SyncBack Is All The Backup You Need

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Software

image I cannot believe I haven’t written about this application yet.  This one is a must have it makes syncing and backing up a snap and also allows you to setup remote backups to FTP and allows you to run schedules.  I use this application once a week to copy my important files from my laptop to my backup hard drives.  I also use it to backup my pen drive (lesson learned there) and to sync 2 external hard drives with all my music as well as syncing my music folder with my girlfriends laptop.  Super easy to use and the price is right….FREE!

New Version of MP3Tag 2.40

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Software

image I figured I would upload this file because it looks like some of my favorite applications are starting to disappear online or go for a paid model.  I have mentioned this one before and it is by far the easiest and best way to manage your MP3 tags.
