Gmail Redesign makes an Update

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Web Sites

image Some minor tweaks, but pretty noticeable changes to the Stylish format for Gmail.  Now the style includes new icons as well as copying the style throughout the setting pages of Gmail. Also the chat boxes are a little prettier and some cleanup of some other fonts and whatnot.  Looks amazing, kinda bummed that stylish doesn’t pick up on the updates and you have to do it yourself.   This makes Gmail much better  Check it out.

Plaxo Finally Updates - Fixes Yahoo Sync

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Web Sites

image For a while Plaxo was having issues syncing with Yahoo! so they removed it from the list.  As of this weekend it looks like the Yahoo sync is back in business.  Which is good because I was actually starting to look in other directions for calendar and contact management since Yahoo! is where I do all my emailing from.  Also looks like they did some UI updates and now I have a pulse icon on the toolbar, don’t know what I think about that yet I will have to let you know after a few days.

Picasa Web-Albums Downloader

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Software, Web Sites

image So for those people who like to post images in Picasa web album but not enable you to download them this little Java app lets you get around clicking each one and downloading.  This is helpful for people like my father who I have setup a full website for but never uses it and just uses Picasa (which was a feat in itself to get him to do)

CGI Images of Robots

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Photos, Web Sites

image What can I say I am a sucker for good photography/CGI effects.  Some of these are amazing, they say that you are always interested in things you cannot do yourself and art is the perfect example of somewhere where I fall short.

Of course there is always our good defacto standard of DeviantArt.com but it is always fun to see what else is on the net because sometimes I feel DeviantArt.com  gets a little stale.

New Theme and New Theme Website

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Codeing/Development, Web Sites

image As you can see I have changed my theme for my blog.  Well unless of course you only read my blog via RSS…yes all 14 of you!  I am really happy with the look of this new theme with some minor changes.  I had to do a couple of CSS tweaks to fix some issues I noticed as well as changing the header logo to my next car, the reason I am in school, the Audi A5.  I also made some tweaks to the templates to allow the Ajax plugin to work correctly and all seems well.  Overall I am very happy with this template and looking around TopWPThemes website they have a ton of very nice easily modifiable layouts, so I am adding them to the list of templates.  I was also very happy to see that my blogroll from Google looks pretty good with the new layout.

I am trying to keep up with my blogging but lately it has been a little rough running into the end of the semester along with spring it is tough to find time to contribute.  I have a lot in my backlog so you can expect an occasional flooding of new information.

FluencyAdmin for Wordpress 2.5

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Web Sites

imageWith the release of WP 2.5 last week my admin design plugin’s were all messed up.  Luckily someone picked up the ball and edited the last version of the Tiger Admin interface I was fond of and made it work with WP 2.5.  The latest release of Fluency addressed some issues with layout and overlapping that were in NextGen Gallery that kept me from using the plugin.  The only extra change I made is changing all the fonts and shrinking the size of the font as I was not very happy with what he chose.  Other than that minor change to the CSS file this plugin is great and makes WP 2.5 a powerful upgrade.  As I do all my publishing from Windows Live Writer, I am not in the admin interface that often but when I am this makes it a much better experience.

Make Gmail Better

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Software, Web Sites

image As with Google Reader there is a plugin for making Gmail look better and function better as well.  It is called Better Gmail 2.  Today I also found an application called Gmail Redesigned which gives you a nice skin to throw onto Gmail.  I don’t use Gmail a lot as I usually use Yahoo to do my web mailing but one thing Gmail does do is it allows me to spoof the email I am sending from so I can email from my school email account straight from Google.  This is a lot easier then logging into my school email account.  Lifehacker says that they are going to update Better Gmail soon so that it has skins but until then using Stylish and this script Gmail is much prettier now!

Wiring Skills - Data Center’s Wiring Jobs

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Photos, Web Sites

image So glad to see that someone else has some of the wiring skills that I have behind our TV.  These are some pictures from a few non-disclosed data centers.  Some of these pictures are really amazing and the others are kinda scary.

Abandoned Projects/Buildings Web Site

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Web Sites

image This website is amazing.  It is a bunch of urban explorers that go through and find old abandon projects.  The picture to the left is a picture of some tunnels that are more than 10 stories below Niagara Falls that used to be part of a hydroelectric project that they abandoned.  The walls are made of red brick and make for some great shots.  This site has a bunch of underground as well as above ground projects that are just mesmerizing to look at.  As the domain leads you to believe it looks like most of these projects are up in Canada.  Pretty interesting stuff…

The Vanishing Point

Turn any page into an RSS XML feed

Posted by: Dan | Posted in: Web Sites

image There are very few pages that do not have RSS feeds available but every once and a while I come across one.  This handy little website turns any web page into a live RSS feed.  All you have to do is enter in the URL and it creates an RSS feed for you to subscribe to.
